Study of transient double-mode behaviour of nonlinear models of Cepheids

چکیده
Nonlinear pulsation models of Cepheids pulsating in first and second overtone modes have been constructed in order to study their transient double-mode behaviour. The purposes were to: (1) verify the possible nonlinear effects on period ratios; (2) compare the general nonlinear characteristics of the theoretical light curves with the observed ones; (3) check the plausibility of the hypothesis of very low metallicity of CO Aur. The analysis of the transient behaviour indicates that the difference between linear and nonlinear period ratios is always negligible, and hence period ratios of linear models can be used for comparisons with observed values. Moreover, the Fourier analysis suggests that, for a given order of fit, some combination frequency terms should be preferentially detected in real stars, and this is confirmed by observations. Finally, the models suggest that first and second overtone double-mode Cepheids with very low metallicity must have much shorter period than CO Aur; this supports the view that CO Aur is compatible only with a standard mass-luminosity relation.

The role of negative buoyancy in convective Cepheid models. Double-mode pulsations revisited
The longstanding problem of modeling double-mode behaviour of classical pulsators was solved with the incorporation of turbulent convection into pulsation hydrocodes. However, the reasons for the computed double-mode behaviour were never clearly identified. In our recent papers (Smolec & Moskalik 2008a,b) we showed that the double-mode behaviour results from the neglect of negative buoyancy eff...
متن کاملOn resonant and non-resonant origin of double-mode Cepheid pulsation
Double-mode Cepheid behaviour may arise either from non-resonant or resonant mode interaction. Inclusion of turbulent convection into pulsation codes by Kolláth et al. led to stable double-mode F+1O Cepheid pulsation [1]. However, our recent computations indicate, that these models resulted from incorrect neglect of negative buoyancy effects [2]. Once these effects are taken into account, only ...

The present paper tackles the optimization problem of double layer grids considering nonlinear behaviour. In this paper, an efficient optimization algorithm is proposed to achieve the optimization task based on the newly developed grey wolf algorithm (GWA) termed as sequential GWA (SGWA). In the framework of SGWA, a sequence of optimization processe...
متن کاملThe Transient Dynamics of a Beam Mounted on Spring Supports and Equipped with the Nonlinear Energy Sink
The transient dynamics of a beam mounted on springer-damper support and equipped with a nonlinear energy sink (NES) is investigated under the effects of shock loads. The equations of motion are derived using the Hamilton’s principle leading to four hybrid ordinary and partial differential equations and descritized using the Galerkin method. An adaptive Newmark method is employed for accurate an...
متن کاملOn the second overtone stability among SMC Cepheids
We present a new set of Cepheid, full amplitude, nonlinear, convective models which are pulsationally unstable in the second overtone (SO). Hydrodynamical models were constructed by adopting a chemical composition typical for Cepheids in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) and stellar masses ranging from 3.25 to 4 M⊙. Predicted φ21 Fourier parameters agree, within current uncertainties, with empir...
